Governor McMaster unveils proposed budget for this fiscal year
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– With lawmakers set to return to the State House next week Governor Henry McMaster released his proposed budget for this fiscal year.
The largest item mentioned was $500 million to go to the South Carolina Department of Transportation to fix bridges all across the state.
The governor also hopes to continue cutting the state’s income tax as well as increasing the starting teacher to $45 thousand.
McMaster additionally hopes that $15 million will be set aside to help increase South Carolina’s energy capacity as new industries and people come to the state.
Even with all the different items mentioned in the proposed budget the governor admits that not everything will be funded.
As far as education the governor hopes to freeze in-state tuition at public universities and make sure that all public schools have a school resource officer.
