Deputies: Student arrested for bringing gun to school

Richland Co., S.C. (WOLO)– Richland Co. Deptuies say a 17 year old was arrested at Lower Richland High School Wednesday morning.

Investigators say just after 8am the school resource officer was notified by administrators that they found a handgun in the student’s backpack when he set off the school’s metal detector.

Deputies say the teen is charged with Possession of a Firearm on School Property, Possession of a Pistol under the age of 18 and Unlawful Carry of a Handgun.

According to authorities there is no evidence that any students or teachers were threatened.
