WH continues talks to secure release of more hostages
(ABC News) — The White House says talks to secure the release of hostages being held in Gaza should not be considered as negotiations – but rather as ongoing discussions.
Tuesday the National Security Council Spokesman, John Kirby described the talks as being sober and serious.
Kirby also would not confirm reports of a possible two-month long pause in fighting as part of a potential deal.
However, he did say the White House would support a lengthier pause than the one week that was agreed to last year, the same time some hostages were released.
Kirby also says the White House Middle East Coordinator, Brett McGurk who is in Cairo is continuing discussions on a potential hostage deal. Israeli officials estimate about 130 hostages remain in Hamas custody.
