Nurse at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center facing drug possession and contraband charges
Investigators say Jakiera Day faces charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute marijuana and two counts of Contraband.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – A nurse at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center has been arrested, according Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Investigators say Jakiera Day faces charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute marijuana and two counts of Contraband. Today, jail officials contacted the Richland County Sheriff’s Department after Day was caught bringing in contraband through the front door. According to investigators, Day stuffed the packages into a cracker box and tried to conceal them. Along with her cell phone, other jail documents, medication from the jail, personal journals and notes to inmates were found in her vehicle. It is believed she has had contact with multiple inmates inside of the jail.
She is employed by an outside agency and contracted by the jail, according to investigators. Further charges will be assessed after more investigations are completed.
Day was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and was given a surety bond of $10,000.
