Sumter County: Wanted man arrested after being identified during separate investigation

 

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter County deputies say they were investigating a burglary that happened on Wednesday, Jan. 24 when they identified a wanted man and his vehicle.

According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, while on patrol a deputy noticed a vehicle matching the description of Common Nelson’s vehicle pulling into a home off Carolina Avenue.

After confirming that it was Nelson and the vehicle law enforcement were looking for the deputy called for back up.

In the process Nelson and others left the home on foot, say Sumter County deputies.

Investigators say while searching the home Nelson was found hiding in a bedroom closet and was taken into custody with incident.

The vehicle was seized by investigators who say marijuana, crack cocaine, methamphetamine and a firearm were found.

Also, after gaining a search warrant for Nelson’s phone and social media, evidence showed him in possession of an illegally modified Glock pistol as well as the drugs found in the vehicle.

He was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

Also he was denied bond and is awaiting trial.

Deputies say Nelson had open warrants from the City of Sumter and Sumter County which included attempted murder.
