Haley campaigns in Camden as countdown to SC Republican primary continues

CAMDEN, SC (WOLO) — With just days remaining before the South Carolina Republican Presidential primary, Nikki Haley is continuing her campaign across the state.

After visiting cities like Johns Island and Rock Hill over the weekend, Haley made her way to the Historic Robert Mills Courthouse in Camden to continue motivating voters.

Haley reiterated what she considers success stories during her tenure as governor, from passing voter i.d. laws and immigration policy to requiring politicians to show their votes on the record.

She also reminded the audience of both President Biden and former President Trump’s ages.

“And let me tell you this, we will have a female President of the United States. The hard truth is, it will either be me or Kamala Harris,” she says.

Haley also made stark contrasts between herself and former President Trump through her support of NATO — highlighting Trump’s speech in Conway last week where he said he would encourage Russian President Vladimir Putin to invade our allies if they weren’t pulling their weight.

“The idea that Trump sided with a dictator who kills his political opponents. The idea that he sided with a tyrant who arrests American journalists and holds them hostage. The idea that Trump would associate himself with Putin like that over our allies who stood with us after 9/11? What he just did was put all of our allies in danger and every military service person who’s serving there in danger,” Haley says.

She stressed that she believes Trump spends all of his time talking about himself, instead of issues faced by the American people, saying, “He’s not talking about the fact that we’re $34 trillion  in debt. He’s not talking about the fact that only 31 % of 8th graders are proficient in reading. He’s not talking about an open border that’s out of control. He’s not talking about the lawlessness in our cities. And he’s certainly not talking about the wars around the world. All he’s doing is talking about himself.

Haley painted a picture for what the future could look like under her leadership.

“Could you imagine when you sit at the dinner table and you don’t have to argue over politics? Could you imagine where you can go to your job and say your views and not have to worry about being demoted? Can you imagine where we don’t have this chaos and this anger and this division on sides hating each other and we just remembered what it means to be Americans again? And the values that made us great? If you don’t want that for yourself, lets at least do that for our kids,” she says.

Haley supporter Reagan Payseur and her daughter Lexie attended the rally.

“I just love the fact that she’s a unifying presence in our country. I feel like she’s a person who can bring us all together, when we’ve been so divisive for so long,” says Payseur, adding, “For her to get to see a woman a strong woman presence in our country to lead us and to have the compassion that Nikki Haley has, it makes me proud.”

The SC Republican Presidential Primary takes place this Saturday, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
