Sheriff: Man, woman charged in death of 4-year old

Richland Co., S.C. (WOLO)–Sheriff Leon Lott says a man and woman are facing charges in connection with the death of a 4-year-old girl.

Deputies say on February 16, investigators responded to Prisma Children’s Hospital concerning an unresponsive child who was brought in by EMS with a broken leg and severe burns.

Authorities say the child, Hope Fields,4, was on life support for two days but ultimately died from her injures.

Investigators later determined the injuries were sustained on February 15th when the victim’s father Wilbur Fields, 34, submerged the child in scalding water after she soiled her pants.

Deputies say the child’s mother, Fifi Hill-Fields, 32, was aware of the incident.

Three additional children were taken into protective custody.

Both parents are in custody and charged with Homicide by Child Abuse.
