The Zoo posted the following message on Facebook:

Our hearts are heavy as we announce the passing of giraffe Isabelle. In recent months, she faced health challenges, and while we navigate this difficult time, your support means the world to us. Born at Riverbanks on Labor Day in 2010, Isabelle’s legacy will continue to impact the lives of our animal family through the collection of blood samples, which provide life-saving plasma. Giraffe plasma contains essential antibodies and proteins that play a crucial role in fighting infections and maintaining health, which can help save the lives of other animals in need.
Let’s honor Isabelle’s memory together as we remember the joy she brought to #RiverbanksZoo. 💔

Special thanks to the Columbia Fire Department (SC) for their invaluable assistance, including their use of thermal imaging, which aided in assessing Isabelle’s condition.
