Methane Emissions Are 3 Times Worse Than Previously Thought

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas.  It traps heat very efficiently.  So putting more of it into the air is not good for our planet.  A new study shows that the amount of methane, leaking mostly from abandoned oil and gas wells into the atmosphere, is 3 times more than previously thought.  That said, there is some good news.  The study finds that a small percentage of the wells is responsible for roughly 50% of the leaking methane.  That means that by focusing efforts on capping a small number of wells will go a long way to solving the problem.  You can read all about it here in this article by the Associated Press.  https://apnews.com/article/methane-natural-gas-leak-climate-change-401cc08ad784d42fc463ed00bce4983e?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=share
