RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)–  The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after deputies were involved in an officer-involved shooting that injured a K9 dog and a teen, says RCSD.

Deputies say they were responding to a call in the 500 block of Deerwood Street shortly after midnight on Thursday in connection with a stolen vehicle.

The owner of the vehicle told deputies his Ford pick-up was stolen and his gun was inside the pick-up.

Shortly after 2 a.m. on March 14, K9 Specialists Bryan Hodge and Datron Washington saw the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop.

RCSD says the driver did not stop for the blue lights, and then a short chase took place. When the chase came to a stop, two people left the scene on foot and a foot chase began.

During the foot chase, K9 Kobe tried to get the driver of the vehicle to stop when the driver identified as 17-year-old Jeremy Taylor began to shoot at deputies.

Deputies say they returned fire which resulted in Taylor being shot. During the incident deputies say when Taylor fired shots K9 Kobe was hit multiple times.

The teen was taken to a local hospital for his injuries.

He is being charged as an adult with attempted murder, multiple weapons charges, unlawful injury to a police dog, failure to stop for blue lights, and grand larceny of a motor vehicle.
