SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A man was arrested after fleeing a traffic stop in Sumter County, say deputies.
A Sumter County deputy saw a vehicle in the Broad Street and Eagle Road area that displayed an expired temporary license plate and attempted a traffic stop.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says Jason Lee Austine Manthei could not produce a driver’s license and used a false name when identifying himself.
When the deputy returned to his cruiser, Manthei drove away, says SCSO.
Shortly after he drove away, the deputy followed as Manthei drove to a nearby mobile home park and fled on foot while the vehicle was still in motion.
The sheriff’s office says the rolling vehicle hit a home which possibly caused an estimated $7,000 in damage.
Manthei was found hiding a short distance away from the scene and was placed under arrest.
He was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and is being held on a $6,064.50 surety bond.
His charges are failure to stop for a blue light, possession of methamphetamine, and giving false information to police.
