City of Columbia releases Gamecock parade road closures

City Of Columbia LogoColumbia, SC (WOLO) —  Fans near and far watched as the 2024 Gamecocks Women’s Basketball Championship Parade took the Hawkeyes by storm, winning the NCAA Championship for the third time. This weekend, you’ll be able to join in the celebration during the Gamecock Championship Parade happening downtown.

Two years ago, when the women’s basketball team brought home the Championship hundreds of people filled the streets of downtown Columbia to revel in their win as the team and Head Coach Dawn Staley participated in a victory parade through the streets of the soda city. This year is no exception and the City of Columbia is preparing for the crowds.

Wednesday city officials released a list of the streets that will be shut down just before the parade allowing revelers to enjoy the celebration while also making it easier for the parade to move along the route traffic free. If you are not going to the festivities Sunday you may want to avoid the area or find an alternate route. Crew will begin blocking some streets as early as 12pm, as they get things in place for the start of the event beginning at 2 p.m. Below is a list of the locations that will be closed to traffic until the parade comes to an end and clean up has been completed.
