Newberry residents warned about someone calling, claiming to be sheriff

NEWBERRY, S.C. (WOLO)–Newberry residents are being warned about a scam going around, say officials.

Investigators say someone has been calling people claiming to be Sheriff Lee Foster or another deputy.

The scammer then claims to be seeking money for a civil penalty, a warrant or jury duty.

Deputies say they will never call you or ask for money. If you get one of these calls then just hang up.
