Gov. McMaster signs bill banning gender transition procedures for people under 18

Columbia, S.C.  (WOLO)– Tuesday afternoon Governor Henry McMaster announced on “X” that he has signed the “Help Not Harm” bill into law.

The measure prevents healthcare providers in South Carolina from providing gender reassignment procedures for minors.

It also bans the use of public funds from being used for gender affirming care.

The governor added that he will attend a ceremonial bill signing for the law next week in the Upstate.

At least 22 states have enacted laws restricting or banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors.
