Santee Cooper tower collapses

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)– Officials with Santee Cooper confirm that one of the company’s towers collapsed into the Congaree River.

Officials say it is not affecting power distribution.

A spokesperson for the Congaree Riverkeeper says the tower is just downstream of I-77 and upstream from the “big sandbar”.

Officials are asking you to avoid this area and Santee Cooper will work to remove the tower in the coming weeks.
