SCSO: 2 adults, minor arrested in connection with Sumter Co. carjacking
SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Two adults and a minor have been arrested in connection with a carjacking that happened in August, say Sumter Co. deputies.
Deputies say a Sumter County resident was forced out of their car at gunpoint on Peach Orchard Road on the evening of August 30.
The next day a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle was spotted by Sumter Police Department officers who were led on a chase.
The sheriff’s office says around 10:36 p.m., they took over the chase, and when the vehicle stopped deputies detained a 16-year-old driver in connection to the investigation.
Sumter County Sheriff’s Department says after further investigating Jahmell Dashawn Simon-Williams and Cierra Antionette Christian became implicated in the case.
Christian is the mother of the teen and investigators allege she was trying to aid the teen prior to their apprehension.
Both were arrested by deputies and taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
The teen was charged with kidnapping, carjacking, criminal conspiracy, and petitioned to family court.
Simon-Williams was charged with kidnapping, carjacking, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, criminal conspiracy, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and person over 18-year-old using minor to commit violent crime.
Simon-Williams’ bond was denied.
Christian was charged with accessory after the fact to a felony and was released on a surety bond of $20,000.
