Last defendant in failed VC Summer reactor project to be sentenced

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The sentencing of the last defendant in the VC Summer Nuclear Project collapse will take place this week.

Jeffrey Benjamin will be sentenced at the Matthew J. Perry Court House.

Investigators say he withheld key information from SCENG as well as state and federal regulators about the scheduled delays and cost overruns, causing it to collapse in 2017 and bankrupting SCENG.

Which resulted in the take over by Dominion Energy in 2019. The failed project in Fairfield County lost more than $9 million.
