COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — According to the Columbia-Richland Fire Department, crews have responded to the scene of a 2-Alarm fire that broke out at the GFL Environmental Waste Disposal facility at 7800 Farrow Road.

The rapid spread of the fire prompted officers on scene to call for a 2nd Alarm, dispatching more resources.

Farrow Road is closed in both directions north of the I-20 interchange while crews are working.

According to Chief Aubrey Jenkins,  a spillage from a 1,000 gallon tank of oil on the inside may have led to the fire.  He says DHEC has been notified of the runoff as well.

Jenkins says there is no immediate danger to the community or the environment that they are aware of at this time.

One employee was inside at the time of the fire, and several were on site, but no injuries are being reported.
