SC Highway Patrol offers safety tips for Thanksgiving travelers

CAMDEN, SC (WOLO) — Tuesday was a busy day for airports. Wednesday was a busy day for the interstates.

In total, AAA expects 80 million Americans to travel this Thanksgiving holiday.

Last year, South Carolina Highway Patrol increased enforcement of traffic laws around the holiday period.

This year, troopers plan to do the same. You can expect an increased presence of law enforcement. There will also be plenty of Thanksgiving traffic and roadwork across the Palmetto State.

Trooper William Bennett spoke to drivers today at the I-20 rest stop in Kershaw County to remind them to stay safe on the roadways.

South Carolina Highway Patrol also reminds drivers to watch their speed and limit distractions. Bennett advises using a navigation app to update you on traffic conditions and roadwork ahead of time.

State troopers warn you not to drink and drive during the Thanksgiving holiday. Even a few drinks can prove deadly. Nearly half of South Carolina’s fatal crashes involve alcohol.
