Richland County judge swears in Sheriff Leon Lott to 8th term

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — Before today, only one Richland County Sheriff has served eight terms in the job.

Tuesday morning, Leon Lott was sworn in for an 8th term, to become the second.

While Sheriff Leon Lott says he is focused on reducing crime in Richland County, he says the area has a lot of positives to reflect on.

Lott first joined law enforcement in 1975 as a patrol officer.

Now tied as the longest serving sheriff in the county, Lott says being sworn in for an 8th term in a Richland County Courthouse Tuesday was a special moment.
