FOREST ACRES, S.C. (WOLO)– Forest Acres Police Department have charged a man in connection with a shooting that caused multiple schools to go on lockdown on Monday, says the police dept.
Officers say 20-year-old Ty’Quan Kelly has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, discharging a firearm into a vehicle, aggravated breach of peace and unlawful carrying of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Kelly is scheduled to appear in a Richland County Bond Court at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4.
Officers believe Kelly was involved in a domestic dispute with a woman on Monday around noon when he fired into a car as she left the Ravenwood Apartments in Covenant Crossing with three people inside.
The victim drove the car about a mile before stopping outside of Bradley Elementary with a flat tire to call police.
Police say none of the three people inside the car were hurt, but multiple schools in the area were all placed on secure status out of precaution as police searched the area.
Kelly was arrested by an undercover officer while walking outside of Bradley Elementary around 4 p.m. on Monday.
FAPD says officers found the gun yesterday near the scene of the shooting.
“We are turning our focus to determine how this violent, convicted felon was free to commit another crime, especially after a judge granted him bond following the 2023 apartment mass shooting despite law enforcement deeming Kelly a danger to our community. Something that has now been proven yet again,” states Forest Acres Chief of Police Don Robinson.
