COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — Over the course of the afternoon, hundreds of people gathered in front of the Statehouse Saturday afternoon to protest ongoing ICE raids across the country.

With some recently taking place as close as Goose Creek and Savannah, GA, protesters say they are calling for the protection of immigrant families, and the end of mass deportations.

Made up of community members and a group known as The Party for Socialism and Liberation, one sign at the protest read, “My parents fought for my future, now I fight for theirs” while another read, “You can’t love the culture and not love the people.”

ICE raids protestor Anson Foster, says, “We believe that we have to organize the mass movement. we think that demonstrations, rallies, marches are powerful, because when you are standing with your brothers and sisters, your neighbors, your coworkers your family members, you feel the power of the people. So it’s so important that we mobilize, but we also want to organize.”

According to President Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan, around 11,000 arrests have been made by ICE since January 20th.
