President Donald Trump addresses the nation

(ABC News) — President Trump addressed a joint Congress Tuesday,  for the first time since his return to the White House.

The speech taking place in the Capitol,  amid tense negotiations abroad and a looming trade war affecting millions of Americans.
ABC’s Christiane Cordero has the details from Capitol Hill.

South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Christale Spain released a statement concerning the joint address saying,

“A month into his second term, Donald Trump has been disastrous for South Carolina families. Instead of fulfilling his promise to lower costs, Trump’s policies are set to raise prices – from housing to food and gas – as he cuts critical federal programs and rolls back protections secured by Democrats. Now, he and House Republicans are pushing a budget that could rip health care away from some of the over one million South Carolinians who rely on Medicaid – all to give massive tax breaks to billionaires like Elon Musk. At this point in his term, Trump is the least popular president in modern American history and there is no question why: Trump continues to leave working South Carolinians in the dust to carry water for corrupt billionaires. Democrats are fighting tooth and nail to fight back against Trump’s billionaire agenda and make life better for working families.”
