Man arrested after 5-year-old girl killed in DUI crash

Maurice Matthews was arrested in connection to the DUI death of a 5-year-old in the West Columbia area of Lexington County.
LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WOLO) — Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified a 5-year-old victim in a deadly DUI crash. The child died in a two-vehicle accident in the 3800 block of Charleston Highway in the West Columbia area of Lexington County on Saturday.
According to Coroner Fisher, 5-year-old Charlotte Leah Flores Izaguirre of West Columbia was a passenger in a vehicle traveling southbound on Charleston Highway when they were struck from behind by another vehicle.
The child, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. The two other occupants were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle had non-life-threatening injuries and was arrested for driving under suspension (suspended for DUI 2nd offense) and felony DUI resulting in death. The Lexington County Coroner’s Office, the South Carolina Highway Patrol MAIT, and South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate the incident.
According to highway patrol the name of the person arrested for the DUI was Maurice Matthews.
