Sumter PD alerts public of email that may contain virus
Sumter, SC (WOLO) — The Sumter Police Department is asking members of the community to be cautious while opening your emails. According to Police, there is an email that is circulating that comes to your inbox as though you bought something. The email has the subject title of “Transmission Purchase Order” and appears to come from a Sumter Police employee.
The goal of the scam is to get people to wonder, what did I or something with access to my money buy, but police say it’s not real. In fact, authorities ask you to not even click on the email, but instead they ask you to delete it immediately.
Police say the email is believed to contain a virus. Police tell us their department along with the help of City of Sumter IT experts are working to address the issue.
