Sumter police officer injured after accidental discharge of his gun

SUMTER CO., (WOLO) – The Sumter Police Department says an officer was injured after an accidental discharge of his duty gun Sunday morning.

According to investigators, the incident happened after 8 a.m. at the county detention center.

The officer was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, where he was treated and later released.

This incident is under review by the Sumter Police Department and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
