SC Gov. signs order speeding up bridge repair

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Governor Henry McMaster issued an executive order Tuesday, June 17, to speed up repairs on the I-20 overpass bridge that collapsed over the weekend.

The old Vaucluse Road I-20 overpass bridge in Aiken county was destroyed in a tanker truck collision and fire on Saturday.

Officials say the order declares the incident is an emergency under federal guidelines.

It also authorizes the State Department of Transportation to take any actions necessary to provide for the immediate replacement of the bridge.
