Over 2,300 miles — “The Great Race” of vintage cars finishes in Irmo
IRMO, SC (WOLO) — The finale of the 2025 Hemmings Great Race took place on Sunday at Moore Park in Irmo.
Community members and car enthusiasts cheered on racers as they crossed the finish line — having traveled over 2,300 miles from St. Paul, Minnesota in their vintage vehicles.
The event got its start in 1983 by Tom McRae and Norman Miller.
According to The Great Race’s website, the two men were partners in the deal, and bought out an ailing race promoter who planned to race pre-World War II automobiles across the U.S. for a massive purse.
The winner of this year’s race took home $50,000.
