Lexington County Sheriff: Inmate death investigation underway

LEXINGTON, SC (WOLO)— The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department says a Lexington County Detention Center inmate died Friday after being taken to a hospital.

According to the Lexington County Coroner, the inmate is  identified as 25-year-old Morgan Daniel Kannaday of Gaston.

“State troopers arrested Mr. Kannaday June 29 due to traffic offenses, a DUI and a drug charge,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “He had been held at the jail since he was booked.”

Kannaday was transported to Lexington Medical Center Friday morning, according to Koon.

“In accordance with our policy, SLED is investigating Mr. Kannaday’s death,” Koon said.
