New rules on taxed charity donations
(CNN)– New tax rules for charitable donations are ahead.
Starting next year, how you donate will affect your tax break deductions.
Standard deduction filers can write off up to $1, 000 in cash gifts.
$2,000 for joint filers.
That’s double the old pandemic-era limit.
Non-cash gifts, like clothes or food, will face stricter limits.
Those who itemize their deductions will for the first time be allowed to deduct their cash contributions only to the extent they exceed .5% of their adjusted gross income.
The new tax rules are set to take effect in 2026.
