Sumter School District superintendent resigns, board chairman releases statement

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The Sumter School District Board Chairman has released a statement following the district’s superintendent resigning.

Statement from Board Chairman Regarding Superintendent’s Resignation:

“This evening, Superintendent Dr. William Wright asked to be released from his employment contract with Sumter School District. The Board agreed to his resignation effective immediately. The terms of Dr. Wright’s resignation will be released in the coming days. On behalf of the Board, I know we all wish him well in his future endeavors.
The Board will discuss and announce plans to conduct a search for both an interim and a permanent superintendent in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the District’s operations will be managed by Dr. Shirley Gamble, Acting Superintendent.
The Board is committed to keeping the public informed during this time of transition.”
