National gas prices drop while South Carolina sees a slight rise amid storm preparations

(WCIV) — The average price of gas in South Carolina rose in the past week, as the Lowcountry prepared for potential effects caused by now tropical storm Imelda.
According to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,028 stations in South Carolina, gas prices in the state rose 4.4 cents per gallon, for an average of $2.79 per gallon on Monday. Through prices are unchanged compared to a month ago, they are 6.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
The cheapest station in South Carolina was recorded to have a price of $2.51 per gallon Sunday while the most expensive was $3.44 per gallon, just short of a full dollar difference.
Nationally the price of gas fell, though according to Patrick De Haan head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, seasonal factors remain the primary driver of relief or a pinch at the pump.
The national average price of gas fell 5.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging at about $3.08per gallon Monday. This cost is reportedly down 11.1 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 9.0 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
