Town of Chapin releases statement on SLED investigation into mayor

TOWN OF CHAPIN, S.C. (WOLO)– The Town of Chapin has released a statement in regards to a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) investigation into the town’s Mayor Bill Mitchell Jr.

According to SLED, on November 7, Chapin Police responded to Chapin Town Hall following an alleged assault involving Mitchell.

 Mitchell was elected Chapin’s mayor on November 4, following the passing of former Mayor Al Koon.

 

Statement from Town of Chapin:

The Town of Chapin is aware of the ongoing SLED investigation involving Mayor Bill Mitchell Jr. In line with our commitment to cooperating fully with law enforcement,
the town will not be providing further comment at this time. We remain committed to transparency and will provide updates as appropriate. The Town remains fully operational and continues to serve the Chapin community with dedication.
