North Carolina man in custody after officer involved shooting in Calhoun County

Steven Townsend is accused of being involved in an officer involved Calhoun County shooting, say law enforcement.
CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A North Carolina man is in custody in connection with an officer involved shooting in Calhoun County.
Investigators with South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) say Steven Townsend is charged with resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, failure to stop for blue lights, and grand larceny.
Officials say Townsend was driving a stolen car when he was spotted by an Orangeburg County deputy.
After a chase, Investigators say Townsend crashed in Saint Matthews in Calhoun County and attacked the officer.
Officials say Townsend tried to get into the deputies patrol car, and at that point the deputy shot Townsend.
Townsend was taken to the hospital but is now in custody at the Orangeburg County Detention Center.
