SC Winter Weather Preps: Heating Safety tips

South Carolina will see temperatures in the teens this week. Crysty Vaughan shares tips from experts on heating safety.

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– South Carolina will see temperatures in the teens this week. Safety experts have a few tips as we experience the winter freeze.

If you plan on using your fireplace, be sure to have a professional inspect your chimney at least once a year.
Before using a fireplace or kerosene heater, be sure to have at least one carbon monoxide alarm on every level of your home and have a fire alarm in every bedroom.
Experts say when using a space heater, do not use an extension cord and keep a clear distance around the space heater.

And of course, with the freezing temperatures, you want to wrap exposed pipes and allow faucets to drip.
