Polar Plunge benefits Special Olympics SC
LAKE MURRAY, SC (WOLO) — Community members took part in the Lake Murray Polar Plunge Saturday afternoon — a cold dip for a good cause.
Led by Law Enforcement Torch Run Officers, the annual event benefits athletes with Special Olympics SC.
Proceeds raised go to help provide year-round sports training and competition. Leaders say the plunge also helps athletes achieve their goals, live healthier lives, and have a sense of inclusion in the community.
“I think our population is just so caring and giving, and our folks loves to help them out and see what they can do in their sporting events, and you know, it’s such an appreciative group and such a fun group to be around,” says Barry Coats, President of Special Olympics SC.
The event is also lovingly referred to as “Freezin’ for a reason.”
