Racial slur leads to assault at Sam’s Club, say deputies

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after an assault occurred at Sam’s Club over a racial slur.

On Saturday, around 1:30 p.m., deputies say they were dispatched to 733 Fashion Dr. for a report of an assault.

Deputies spoke with the victim who stated that while she was in line at the store, a woman used a racial slur towards her. The victim told deputies that this resulted in a verbal dispute between the two of them. The victim told deputies that she attempted to take a picture of the woman who responded with punching her in the face causing a physical altercation to occur between the two of them as well.

The suspect left the scene prior to law enforcement arriving. The investigation is ongoing.
