Lexington County man accused of stealing more than $48,000 from nursing home resident

Cory Daniel Busbee faces one count of exploitation of a vulnerable adult {§ 43-35-85(D)}, and one count of breach of trust with fraudulent intent, value $10,000 or more (§ 16-13-230(A)).

 

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A 44-year-old man accused of stealing more than $48,000 from a nursing home resident has been charged, says the AG’s Office.

Cory Daniel Busbee faces one count of exploitation of a vulnerable adult {§ 43-35-85(D)}, and one count of breach of trust with fraudulent intent, value $10,000 or more (§ 16-13-230(A)).

Investigators say Busbee knowingly and willfully exploited a vulnerable adult between March 6, 2023, and October 2, 2024.

Busbee is also accused of improperly and unlawfully using the victim’s funds or assets for personal profit or benefit.

While serving as the victim’s power of attorney, Busbee accessed the victim’s bank account to make unauthorized withdrawals and purchases totaling around $48,529.25.

During the period of the alleged exploitation, the victim who is legally classified as a vulnerable adult under South Carolina law resided in a nursing home in Lexington County.

He was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center on February 20, 2026.
