ELGIN, S.C. (WOLO)– Two people were arrested following an investigation into a shooting that happened last month, say deputies.
Investigators say the shooting happened on Goins Lane in Elgin on January 20, 2026, at around 3 p.m.
Also, Kershaw Co. investigators determined that a physical altercation occurred between two individuals during a suspected drug transaction.
Christopher David Douglas is accused of going to his vehicle and getting a gun during the altercation.
Paul William Mason who deputies say was also armed, is accused of discharging his gun, and shooting Douglas.
The shooting is believed to have occurred in self-defense.
Both individuals were charged in connection with methamphetamine that was found at the scene.
Law enforcement believe the meth was the source of the dispute.
Christopher David Douglas, 31, was charged with pointing and presenting a firearm and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Paul William Mason, 38, was also arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
“This was not a random act. Both individuals knew each other, both individuals chose to commit crimes, and both individuals will be held accountable. Drug deals, fights, and firearms never go well together. We are thankful no one was killed,” says Kershaw County Sheriff ‘s Office’s Sheriff Lee Boan.
The investigation remains ongoing.
