Man accused of fatally shooting acquaintance arrested, deputies say

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A man accused of fatally shooting an acquaintance has been arrested, say officers.

Xavier Barnes, 23, is accused of fatally shooting an acquaintance, and leaving his body in Orangeburg County.

Barnes was arrested by Columbia PD, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Thursday, March 26.

He is housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center for murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime charge.

Also, Barnes is accused of shooting 29-year-old Maurice “Mo” Green at a Columbia College.

At the time of his recent arrest, Barnes was out on bond for a 2019 murder investigation in Beaufort County.

Columbia Police Department investigators have been in contact with the Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office about a bond revocation request.
