Sanford previously served three terms in Congress before serving two terms as the governor of South Carolina.

After his terms as governor he returned to Congress for an additional three terms to represent the First District.

Now the congressman is seeking reelection to represent the First District again.

According to a press release, Sanford is entering the race “focused squarely on the issues most consequential to the future of the First District and the country”.

“The people of the Lowcountry want someone who will not only be their able voice and advocate in Washington, but someone who is an advocate for financial sanity that has been lost in Washington for all too long. I believe spending, the debt, and our government’s fiscal course is the defining issue of our time, and if we don’t do something about it now, the consequences will be damning for all of us,” says Sanford.
