Red flag alert begins Wednesday

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The South Carolina Forestry Commission is urging caution as the state remains in drought status.

Officials said they’ve been fortunate in limiting wildfires to manageable levels.

However above-average fire danger, induced primarily by dry conditions statewide, is still expected through April.

Officials said April has historically seen the most damaging and costliest wildfires in the state.

The Forestry Commission urges anyone who plans to conduct an outdoor burn to exercise extreme caution and take all necessary precautions.
