On Thursday, April 9, 2026, around 7:20 p.m., deputies were dispatched to Audrey Lane in reference to a ShotSpotter alert.
While enroute to the area, deputies were advised by dispatch that someone was hit by gunfire in the area of the ShotSpotter alert near Nancy Avenue.
Upon deputies arrival they found a witness and two pools of blood, says Richland Co. Sheriff’s Dept.
After investigating further, deputies found that the suspect who was identified as Khila Wood had hit the victim in the head with a handgun during a verbal argument.
Wood and the victim then physically fought over the firearm and she shot the victim, while in the presence of their child, says RCSD.
Both Wood and the victim left the incident location together.
But deputies were later notified that the victim had been dropped off at a local hospital for medical treatment for a gunshot wound.
The sheriff’s dept. says, Wood called RCSD Headquarters and advised deputies of her location off of Spears Creek Church Road, where she was placed under arrest.
She was taken to the hospital for medical treatment for injuries sustained during the physical altercation with the victim.
Khila Wood is charged with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and unlawful conduct towards a child.
When she was released from the hospital, she was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where she is awaiting a bond hearing.
