Gamecocks open homestand with win over Davidson
The University of South Carolina baseball team opened its nine-game homestand with an 8-6 midweek win over Davidson on Tuesday night (April 14) at Founders Park.
Davidson opened the scoring in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly before the Gamecocks launched three home runs in the bottom of the frame. Will Craddock led off with a solo blast, while Talmadge LeCroy and KJ Scobey had two-run shots for a 5-1 Carolina lead. The Gamecocks had five hits in the inning, including a double from Dawson Harman.
The Wildcats responded in the second with two home runs of their own to even the score. In the fourth, Davidson took the lead with another solo shot.
Back-to-back RBI singles from Tyler Bak and LeCroy put Carolina back in front in the bottom of the fourth. Luke Yuhasz tacked on an RBI groundout in the fifth to make it 8-6.
Logan Prisco took the win on the night, tossing 2.1 scoreless and hitless innings of relief with five strikeouts. The save went to Cooper Parks, who pitched a scoreless inning in relief in the ninth. Josh Gregoire punched out five batters in 2.2 innings of relief, giving up just two hits and one run.
LeCroy and Ethan Lizama led the team with two hits apiece, with LeCroy driving in a team-leading three RBIs on the night.
POSTGAME NOTES
- The three home runs from Craddock, LeCroy and Scobey are the most in a single inning this season. Craddock continues to lead the team with nine round trippers on the year.
- The Gamecocks used six pitchers in the contest, combining for 12 strikeouts on the night.
- Carolina has now won four straight games after sweeping Missouri this past weekend.
