Former trooper charged with assault and battery

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Investigators with South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) say a former state trooper is charged with assault and battery.

According to an incident report on November 21 of 2025, Wayne LaBounty made unwanted sexual advances against a victim, including kissing and touching the victim.

SLED says the investigation was requested by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Wayne LaBounty was the same trooper injured in September of last year while conducting a traffic stop on long branch road.
