Midlands man sentenced to 21 years in prison after pleading guilty

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A Midlands man was sentenced for a shooting that happened in 2024, say officials.

William Wright III was sentenced to 21 years in prison after pleading guilty to several crimes including first degree attempted burglary.

According to investigators, in January of 2024 Wright tried to break into an apartment on Ripplemeyer Avenue and shot into the apartment several times in retaliation for his relative being shot earlier.

Columbia Police say the home Wright shot at had no involvement in that shooting.

A family of 5 including 3 children, who were inside during the shooting were not hurt.
