Retail sales jump 1.7% in March

(CNN)– A record spike in gas prices appears to be driving up the cost of other products.

A new Commerce Department report shows retail sales jumped 1.7% in March.

That’s a percentage point higher than in February, and the fastest monthly rise since January 2023.

The retail numbers aren’t adjusted for inflation.

That means they reflect both spending and price increases.
