Senate confirms new election commission Interim Director

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Tuesday, April 21, the state Senate confirmed Interim Director Conway Belangia as the next executive director the state election commission.

Officials say Belangia brings more than 40 years of experience in election administration to the role.

The confirmation comes after previous nominee Jenny Wooten withdrew her name from consideration.

The previous Executive Director Howard Knapp was removed from office after SLED says he was accused of embezzlement and using his position for financial gain.
