SLED: Woman arrested after shooting injures Springfield Police Chief
BARNWELL CO., S.C. (WOLO) – SLED has arrested a woman following a chase and a shooting that injured a police chief & issued a statewide Blue Alert Monday.
According to investigators, Lacey Cushman, 37, started the chase in Orangeburg County late Monday night and continued into Barnwell.
During the chase, she shot into the vehicle occupied by the Chief of the Springfield Police Department Elijah Fleming, who was injured.
Cushman was located in Orangeburg County Tuesday morning and was taken into custody.
SLED says a Blue Alert is a program designed to broadcast critical information to the public as quickly as possible to assist in the apprehension of any offenders who allegedly harm or kill any law enforcement officers.
This incident is not considered an Officer Involved Shooting by SLED at this time.
Again, Cushman is in custody as the investigation continues.
