Fire displaces 17 at Spring Gardens Apartments Thursday night
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Columbia firefighters say a fire broke out at a local apartment complex Thursday night.
They responded to the Spring Gardens Apartments, 325 Percival Rd., after 11 p.m.
Authorities say they found fire coming through part of the building’s roof with apartments on the first and second floors also affected.
This led to a 2nd Alarm being called for the fire, sending more crews to the scene.
According to officials, the fire was extinguished and everyone inside made it out safely, but one tenant was taken to the hospital to get checked out.
Eight apartments in the building were damaged, displacing at least 17 people.
The Richland County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
